Researchers in Florida have demonstrated that nutrient-rich freshwater releases aggravate hazardous algal blooms by examining data spanning nine years.
Based on regular patterns, it is demonstrated that freshwater dumped into the Gulf of Mexico that is rich in nutrients exacerbates already-existing red tide blooms. High concentrations of the organism are referred to as a bloom, which can cause respiratory problems in humans and in some cases, neurological symptoms. It can also kill marine life and stop coastal tourism.
